Rep. Linda Sanchez, D-Calif, was left with egg on her face Tuesday when she was forced to retract comments made at a hearing into allegations of politically motivated prosecutions overseen by the Justice Department.
In her opening statement Tuesday morning, Sanchez said that the judiciary committee wanted to learn more about the prosecution of former Democratic Los Angeles Councilman Martin Ludlow, convicted last year of campaign finance violations.
Ludlow pled guilty to the charges and publicly apologized for his actions.
After the Daily Journal sought to clarify with Sanchez the basis for her concerns, Sanchez retracted her reference to Ludlow.
